Friends- I am likely a story that should be heard! Our family has gone through hell and back, over and over because our beautiful but severely afflicted daughter, now 18, Clara, had a psychotic break after the pandemic. She’s spent over 7 months cumulatively boarding in ER’s since 2020 awaiting often poor or no treatment for psychosis and post suicidal attempts. These kids, with emerging serious mental illness may die without treatment. Clara has schizophrenia, asd, ocd, anxiety, ARFID, and has had over 8 suicidal attempts/command hallucinations. She’s never taken drugs, nor alcohol. We’ve private paid tens of thousands of dollars beyond the broken system just to keep her alive, due to despicable short or no stays in inpatient treatment in MA at even the very best institutions. Cutting the budget further is a death sentence for families that can not afford to fund beyond this already broken system. Instead, merge DMH and DDS saving millions, and end high stake $$$$ testing saving tens of millions of dollars that could be funneled to proper REAL mental health treatment in schools, homes, communities and hospitals. Our story is harrowing, long and disturbing. I’m able to share more in person for real testimony. Please keep our children, teens, and young adults alive! Ty!!! Kim Carvette

My daughter is 17 and actively working with DMH PactY. We would not have made it this far without their help. I cannot believe we are allowing a billionaire to cut vital government programs that constituents actually utilize. Massachusettes has spearheaded care that the country looks to us for. Throwing it away for Elon Musk and the Trump cult is unacceptable.

I myself grew up receiving support and resources provided by DMH services and I know that I wouldn’t be where I am today had I not gotten this help. Cutting the budget on these services would be a big mistake and negatively affect so many children who could really benefit from some help. This generation of kids are our future, we need to protect them and care for them with everything we’ve got. A big part of that is providing them with the resources they need to improve their lives, mental health, future, etc…

I have worked with families through the DMH flex program for the last 2 years. I have seen so much growth and progress with so many. Taking this support away will directly impact education, policing, more intense levels of care. Many families ask why the services are a secret when they have prevented increases in other supports saving a great deal of money and resources long term.

I am the mother of a 15year old child who has been struggling with mental health since a young age. We've utilized all the services being cut with these budgets. Due to decreased funding my child has filtered through a multitude of state agencies like DCF and the juvenile system most recently. Saying the services are underutilized is not the most accurate information represented by the state. They're is a large portion of families like mine who need these supports and more. We are in a state of mental health crisis because the mental health funding has been getting cut since pre-pandemic. Current case managers are overwhelmed with caseload why would cutting them in half be effective. WE NEED MORE FUNDING NOT LESS.

In my 6 years working in the field I've seen resources for mental health support/emergency care contract and contract, to the point that several communities are becoming service deserts. Not only will further cuts create more long term (and costly) issues for Massachusetts, but its people deserve better! Please restore the 2025 budget!

I have seen first hand the impact that the IRTP programs, and wrap around services, can have on these children. Children come into these program struggling with their mental health, often with severe trauma backgrounds as well. Most have self injurious behaviors and many have had suicide attempts. They think they have no worth, no place in this world and no future. These are incredibly controlled environments that are needed for these students to remain safe while receiving clinical and academic services so they can make progress in their recovery. To help them get ready to move the less restrictive environments and to move forward in their lives. Over time, with lots of work and supports, their perspective changes. They begin to see their strength, begin to see a future for themselves. And then they go out and make that life happen. Many reflect on all the supports that helped them in their darkest time and decide to become a light for others. To dedicate their own lives to the service of others These programs our vital for these students. To deny services when they are young, when their brains are more elastic, will almost certainly end up costing the state far more money servicing them longer as adults. We know early intervention is very important in education, the same is true for mental health.
