As a recipient of DSP due to ASD and visual impairment among injuries sustained from employment where my wife is now my carer, we both are struggling weekly with the income that centrelink deem appropriate to us, because we are a couple so we get penalised on the pay charts. Things arent magically cheaper because we are a couple, we should be able to be on the same income as a household with a dsp and carer recipient that arent a couple. Struggling constantly does not help with my disabilities.
I didn’t choose not to be able to work, my job was my identity and living with out it makes life feel meaningless a lot of the time. Not being able to afford to socialise has made me feel isolated, depressed and alone. I helped people for a living now Im being punished for it There is nothing I would want more than to have my profession back because I would then feel I had my life back.

Every cent of DSP I have goes to living expenses which means I can't afford the medical expenses that would help me to be able to get back to health. Yes, despite the Medicare rebates and PBS subsidies being reduced due to receiving the DSP.
I'm being forced to choose between food rent medication and getting to and from doctor/psychiatrists appointments. It truly robs me of having a social life please change this
The DSP barely covers rent and basic living expenses, let alone medication and any therapy that I desperately need. Medicare health care plans help, but they don’t cover the full costs leaving most treatment out of reach.
