We don't attend Parkside, but we were moved from overcrowded Valley View to the now overcrowded Edgerton Trails. I am concerned this will create more overcrowding. The overcrowding has still not been addressed. Every action has downstream impact. The impact of the re-boundary lines have not been fully understood or surveyed. 30 third graders in a classroom that is half the square footage of classrooms in the older buildings and with one teacher, and no library, (yes, Edgerton) is not an improvement.
I attended Parkside for all five years of elementary, and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I was able to walk to school and learn in my community. Please don’t sever current and future students from this opportunity. Parkside Elementary is a staple for our town's community!
As a Parkside Elementary alum, I am so grateful for the positive experiences I had at this school. The incredible teachers had a profound impact on me in those tender, formative years. Every kid deserves access to this level of quality public education -- and Rockford School District needs Parkside!
this is one of the limited elementary schools with an ASD program, i have a friend with a little sister in the program and she has been impacted so so much by it. i’m studying elementary special ed and these programs are crucial for the social-emotional development and overall wellbeing and education of special needs kids. getting rid of a school with a program like this would be devastating on so many levels.
Please keep the residents of the CITY OF ROCKFORD in mind. Parkside is one of the few ‘walkable’ schools and is a vital resource for the downtown community. Redraw the boundaries and allow room for growth!
I really think that when construction in Heritage Park is finished and the new subdivision on Summit goes in, population at Valley View will increase. Not to mention all the housing coming to downtown with recent zoning changes. We don’t need to rush to make such drastic changes, especially for the kids that were at Meadow Ridge and then Parkside. Three schools in three years (without moving!) is insane.
