Capybaras are being used for profit and such exploitation of beings who have no recourse is unacceptable. Sure, they are adorable but they are not mere objects but are instead living and feeling beings, no matter how friendly they are.

They have individual personalities and want the same things we all do: to be loved, safe, sheltered and fed. They feel emotionally and physically, and deserve to be treated as sentient beings, not toys or commodities. Please stop the sale of chicks at Petco or enforce public education, because chickens make eggcellent pets if one knows how to care for them!

But selling chickens in a pet store (especially around the Easter holiday) so opens their purchase to a thoughtless quick buy without considering all the basic needs they have - a coop carefully protected from predators, feed, water, heater for cold weather, etc. Also, with the egg shortage going on, the costs of adequately supplying chickens with what they need does not pencil out on paper in saving on the cost of eggs. The cost is so much more than the purchase of the chicks.
After the Easter holiday, many of these purchases will end up in the scenario of unwanted and/or poorly cared for (or abandoned) animals. A pet store is not the place to sell them! Petco knows that Easter animals are often abandoned after the holiday as it recommitted to an "adoption only" policy regarding rabbits just last year, so why would it begin selling chicks? I've always thought of Petco as a business that truly cares about the pets it sells and also solicits donations to help unwanted pets. SELLING CHICKS DOESN'T EQUATE WITH HUMANE PRACTICES.
