世界中でブラック・ライブズ・マター運動やイエメン人道危機がSNSを通し注目されている今、明確な歴史的事実を次世代に伝える必要があります。様々な要請団体が文部科学省に教科書検定の撤回・教科書の書き直しを請願しているにも関わらず、日本の教科書はまだたくさんの歴史的事実を歪曲し、たくさんの歴史的出来事、または現在起こっている問題を省略・除去しています。教科書というのは次世代を育む大事な教材です。グローバル化が進んでいる今、様々な人権問題やその歴史的背景について理解し、自らの力で考え未来を変えていける若者を育むために適正な教科書検定基準、そして新たな内容を教科書に含む改訂を行う必要性があります。

教育現場における人権問題の取り組み方と教材の改訂を求めます：

• 日本社会における差別の記述
• 世界・日本で起こっている人権問題についての記述
• アジアと世界におけるカラーリズムの歴史についての記述
• 奴隷制度・黒人の歴史についての記述と語彙の選択の再検討
• LGBTQIA+ 運動とその歴史についての記述
• 日本・世界における先住民群に対する差別と先住民文化についての記述
• 第二次世界大戦・大日本帝国時代に日本軍が犯した戦争犯罪とその影響についての記述
• 色々なバックグラウンドの教師・先生の雇用

Japanese textbooks are notorious for leaving out historical events, white-washing, downplaying, and ignoring tragedies that have happened both in the past and present. Textbooks are responsible for raising the next generation and it has become obvious that the Japanese education system has failed to raise awareness about both domestic and international social issues and historical events in light of black lives matter movement which has gained global presence in the past few months. Education is an extremely powerful tool which can help foster a new generation educated in social, humanitarian, and political realms, which will become increasingly demanded in today's globalizing world. 

We demand that there be re-evaluations of the curriculum and textbook materials of topics including, but not limited to:

• Acknowledge discrimination present in Japanese societies today
• Discussion of humanitarian crises 
• Discussion of colorism's history in Asia and the world
• Re-evaluate wording and more thoroughly discuss black history (in context of not only the United States, but around the world)
• Further discussion of indigenous populations and their culture in Japan and the world
• Inclusion of LGBTQIA+ movement and its history
• Thoroughly discuss war crimes committed by the Japanese military during WWII/Imperial Era and their lasting effects on minority groups in Japan
• Hiring more diverse teachers and educators

Textbook revision and curriculum reconsideration are urgent issues that affect the education of future generations in Japan. Please consider signing this petition to urge textbook publishers and the MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) to more accurately portray historical events with increased inclusion.
