Reform Probable Cause Federal Law, Protect 6th Amendment Rights

Reform Probable Cause Federal Law, Protect 6th Amendment Rights
The Issue
As a victim of two false police reports and an unwarranted mugshot that slandered my name, I understand the devastation that inaccurate law enforcement records can cause. This petition seeks your support in promoting change for the Federal law concerning probable cause. We demand improvements—relying on factual evidence and multiple witness testimonies before accusations are made to protect individuals from potential false allegations. It's essential that mugshots should only be taken when proof beyond reasonable doubt can be substantiated with factual evidence, not merely based on seemingly probable cause.
We also insist upon accountability on all ends. Law enforcement officials who falsify information on police reports, along with accusers and witnesses of the accused who present false information, should be held accountable. Furthermore, it is proposed that in incidents where cameras do not capture the alleged crime, tickets should be issued for both parties to attend court. This would ensure a fair and balanced hearing where all parties present their evidence.
Today, with easy online access, an untimely mugshot or a false accusation can lead to long-lasting damage—socially, professionally, and personally. According to a 2017 study by the National Registry of Exonerations, false accusations resulted in 52% of wrongful convictions that lead to exonerations. It's a sobering reminder of the urgent need for a system overhaul.
Let's stand together and demand this change to protect innocent citizens from unwarranted defamation. Let's ensure that justice prevails over accusation and presumption. Please, sign this petition and help bolster our fight for justice and fairness.
