Suicide Turndown Ongoing Prevention (S.T.O.P) Act

Suicide Turndown Ongoing Prevention (S.T.O.P) Act

The Issue

MISSION

To mentally train our military service members back into the civilian world in an effort to prevent suicides among both military service members and veterans.

HOW TO ACCOMPLISH THE MISSION

The accomplishment of the mission depends on the implementation of the SUICIDE TURNDOWN ONGOING PREVENTION (S.T.O.P) ACT.

The S.T.O.P ACT focuses on providing mental health therapy to military service members via Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) so that they readjust back into civilian life.

CBT has exhibited positive feedback and evident changes in veterans who often suffer from PTSD and/or other readjustment issues.

CBT therapy is designed to "debrief" a military service member of all his/her training that was intended for combat.

The S.T.O.P ACT is designed to provide 12-16 weeks of CBT therapy, which can be offered as a group or individual sessions.

The implementation of the S.T.O.P ACT will allow those servicemembers who seek counseling to be excluded from discrimination or denial of obtaining a security clearance or from bearing arms.

The S.T.O.P ACT will aid the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs to better track service members and veterans with mental health issues and ensure they are receiving the proper follow up care.
