Leicestershire & Rutland Wildlife Trust (LRWT) control nature reserves immediately adjacent to the small village of Holwell, in which I've lived for 25 years.  LRWT will now start shooting Muntjac deer as the only way, they say, of protecting their trees.

It's totally wrong for a wildlife organisation to shoot wildlife - it's cruel, dangerous and unnecessary:

Cruel - shooting guidelines include "it is recommended that only smaller young does or clearly pregnant mature ones are taken (killed)"

Dangerous - accidents do happen and rifles with live ammunition so close to where people live and exercise clearly poses a real threat

Unnecessary - the existing woodland is thriving and the new trees all have substantial plastic protectors.  Have alternatives to killing, such as fencing or sterilisation, been properly considered?
