The Issue

Support St. Louis Build Housing Systems That Restore Accountability and Protect the Rental Process
St. Louis needs stronger housing systems that protect the rental process, support accountability, and create clear expectations for both tenants and property managers.

This petition is not about saying tenants should remain in housing they can no longer afford. It is about making sure that when housing instability begins, the process does not rely on panic, confusion, intimidation, or the threat of eviction as the only way to motivate someone to leave.

When a tenant can no longer afford a unit, or when a property manager needs possession of a unit returned, there should be a clear and documented surrender process. Tenants should know what to expect. Property managers should have a reliable way to recover possession of the unit. Both sides should be able to move through the process with less confusion, less emotional harm, and fewer unnecessary court filings.

Right now, many renters are placed in situations where they are pressured by vague paperwork, unclear timelines, deactivated portals, refused payments, or the fear of eviction. That fear can push people into making rushed decisions from desperation instead of informed decisions from clarity.

Eviction should not be used as a shadow threat when the real goal is surrender of the unit. And when eviction is pursued, tenants should have access to clear information, proper documentation, and legal resources so they understand their rights and responsibilities.

St. Louis can do better.

We need systems that create accountability for landlords and property managers while also giving tenants a clear path to cooperate, surrender a unit when needed, and move forward without unnecessary legal damage.

This petition calls for:

  • Clear surrender-of-unit procedures for renters and property managers
  • Written timelines before rental portals, payment access, or maintenance systems are deactivated
  • Continued access to submit urgent maintenance requests until possession is officially returned
  • Written explanations when rent payments are refused
  • Better tenant education around move-out, surrender, eviction, and maintenance rights
  • More legal resources and advocacy support before housing issues escalate into court
  • A cooperative move-out process that helps landlords recover possession while helping tenants avoid unnecessary eviction records when possible
  • Protecting tenants does not have to mean ignoring the responsibility of landlords.

Protecting landlords does not have to mean intimidating tenants.

Stay Connected to the Housing Accountability Updates
This petition is connected to a larger community education effort through SharnyP Safe Space Association, where I will be organizing updates, resources, and public-facing documentation around housing accountability, tenant education, and the need for clearer rental processes in St. Louis.

The goal is not to encourage harassment, interference, or public attacks against any individual landlord or property manager. The goal is to create a transparent space where renters, community members, and supporters can better understand the process, follow general updates, and learn why stronger housing systems are needed.

As this petition develops, I may share updates related to the petition, community feedback, housing education resources, and next steps for advocacy. Any discussion of legal support, attorney consultations, filing costs, or advocacy-related expenses will be communicated clearly and responsibly if those needs arise.

Supporters can visit my website and join the SharnyP Safe Space community to stay connected, learn more, and follow public updates connected to this housing accountability effort.

We can build a better rental process in St. Louis — one that values accountability, safety, communication, and dignity for everyone involved.
