Save Southern Resident Orcas & Wild Salmon by removing the 4 Lower Snake River Dams

The Issue

The path towards recovery for endangered Southern Resident Orcas and Wild Salmon has been made abundantly clear with the Murry/Inslee report, two reports from the Biden administration, and a fourth from NOAA. All four extensive reports indicate the 4 lower Snake River Dams need to be removed, and that it is entirely possible to do so, once the benefits they currently provide are replaced.

We now call on our elected officials of Washington, Idaho & Oregon to establish an expedient timeline and secure the necessary funding to replace the benefits the dams currently provide, so that the lower Snake River may be restored by 2030. These dams are currently decimating Wild Salmon, on which the Southern Resident Orcas rely for food. There are only 74 Southern Resident Orcas remaining, so time is of the utmost importance.

We demand that our elected officials support the agreement between the Biden Administration, the Lower Columbia River Treaty Tribes and states of Washington & Oregon that was secured in December 2023. This agreement will implement interim measures to help Columbia Basin Salmon and put plans in place to replace the services of the four lower Snake River dams.  Our Salmon and Orca are in dire straits and we must move forward with breaching the Lower Snake River dams as expeditiously as possible. It is now time to secure funding to implement this agreement.

We also call for an immediate end to all tax breaks for data centers (unless they provide 100% of their own energy via wind & solar generation.) Their insatiable energy demands are crippling our chances of meeting Inslee's green energy goals, and making it more difficult to remove the methane emitting and salmon killing dams on the Snake River.

Every year this process is delayed, the chances of Southern Resident Orca survival is greatly diminished.
