For those of us living and working in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the health and safety of our community should come first. My own experiences bear witness to the dangers posed by the excessive electromagnetic field (EMF) radiation emitted from the 5G transceivers and towers newly installed across our town.

One location, in particular, deserves immediate attention: the large 5G tower near St. Joe's Long Term Care facility. This tower emits dangerous EMF radiation levels non-stop, posing a constant threat to the health of our residents, especially the elderly and children.

As someone working in close proximity to these emissions, I have a firsthand account of the escalating levels of radiation. Daily, my occupation requires me to be in the vicinity of this 5G technology, and I am increasingly concerned about its impacts not only on my health, but on the vulnerable populations at risk — the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Evidence from reputable sources indicates the potential for long-term health risks associated with extended exposure to high levels of EMF radiation. For instance, the World Health Organization's International Agency for Research on Cancer has categorized RF electromagnetic fields as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Additionally, studies reveal possible links between exposure to EMF radiation and various health problems such as headaches, immune system disorders, and sleep disturbances. EMF radiation levels that are said to be safe, are a million times higher than the recommended safe levels, and a billion times higher than the natural levels.

While technological advancements are vital for societal progress, they should not compromise our well-being. We must explore alternative solutions that maintain technological growth without sacrificing health and safety, including limiting the locations of these towers to areas safely distanced from residential zones, enforcing stricter regulations on the emissions they produce, and prioritizing the development of technology that minimizes EMF emissions.

I urge local government officials, telecom companies, and regulatory bodies to reconsider the deployment strategies of 5G infrastructure within Thunder Bay. Let's ensure that our push towards modern technology does not endanger the health of our citizens.
