Offer a Fashion Program

    1. Petition by

      Zuzanna Stepniakowska

      Memphis, United States

We propose that the University of Pennsylvania look into offering a fashion-oriented program in order to cater to a more diverse array of interests that center around the business of fashion and design. We realized that Penn’s proximity to New York City and its vast financial and academic resources make Penn a prime candidate as an Ivy League university to offer courses in this particular area of study. In fact, Cornell University offers courses that educate students in fiber science and apparel design as well as fashion merchandising. By offering similar course, Penn will not only benefit current and future students and faculty, but also Penn’s reputation as a diverse and progressive institution.

Retail and consumer goods are such a major part of business that I don't even understand why it's overlooked in our curriculum - it should be somewhat included.

I love fashion and it's my dream to work within the fashion industry. It seems that a lot of people have been focusing more on the business aspect of fashion when it comes to a potential program at Penn, but while I agree that IS needed, I also think it'd be great to have SAS courses on the history of fashion or fashion design elements... courses that stray away from just business/Wharton.

I am coming to UPenn to study the social psychology of fashion and would love to see more faculty who can build upon the work of Reggie Blaszczyk, Kathy Peiss, and Diana Crane.

I really want to study clothing design and i am matriculating to Penn, but there seem to be no options for me to explore this very popular vocational field of modern life.
