A robust blocking functionality on Twitter
A robust blocking functionality on Twitter
The Issue
Twitter have changed their terms and conditions for blocking users. Users can now continue to follow you, retweet your tweets and collate them. This means that abusers can continue to stir up harassment of users, and removes the ability of Twitter users to create their own boundaries.
More and more users will protect their tweets and go silent because of this change to the blocking functionality. This will fundamentally change Twitter, and make it less of a social network
In the light of the abuse levelled at marginalised people on Twitter, we call upon Twitter to return their blocking functionality to its original state, and work on measures which are more robust, not less.
