It is important because urban schools in Memphis are being closed down, or taken over by the state then given to Private Enterprises who run the schools like a business. These corporations then fire all the employees in the school including teachers, custodial and office workers as well as administrative personnel. They also take the money meant for Public Education and use it for private purposes. The children in the schools, who are the commodity for sale, are the ones who suffer the most because they lose stability when their teachers are outsourced and replaced with newer, less experienced teachers who are relocated to our city through the Corporate funded Teach for America.
