Dallas Northington had worked at Target located in Leesburg, Virginia for eight years as a security officer. He had been following the same procedure for reporting shoplifters for those eight years, and had not been told he was doing it incorrectly.

However, when he reported the May 27th second shoplifting incident by a Fairfax Sheriff's deputy, he was fired from his position at Target within a few days. Northington said he was fired for not following Target's proper procedures for reporting a crime.

Target is now seeking legal action against the deputy who has since retired, but are not considering Northington's argument of unfair firing.

Target, do not fire your employees over the status of the other party involved.
