Take the SUDA Pledge for Public Education

    1. Petition by

From curriculum, to rising issues of violence in schools, to massive budget cuts, our legislators in Pennsylvania have not been looking out for children in public schools. Why? Because we've allowed them to do so. It's time to stand up and demand action for Pennsylvania children. Take the SUDA Pledge.

I pledge to vote with the interests of Pennsylvania public school children in mind, first and foremost.

I pledge to speak out and not quit until the full $860 million in public education cuts is restored to Pennsylvania public schools.

I pledge to talk to friends, family, and neighbors about the inequities of public school funding and the ineffective methods of evaluation of public school students. I will inform them of the effects that shortsighted policies have on things like real estate values, local property taxes, crime, and our ability to create economic prosperity as a nation.

I pledge to remain engaged at the local level, by talking with local school board directors, community leaders, and municipal officials, so that together, we can create programs, institutions, and a safe environment for children to learn and grow.

I pledge to call my state-level legislators, especially when the SUDA team asks me to, to raise my voice about important legislative issues concerning public education. I will make sure that my public officials know exactly where I stand, and that they will not get my vote or the vote of my friends or loved ones, if they choose not to make public schools for children a top legislative priority.

I pledge to connect friends and family to our network online, so our movement can grow to every nook and cranny of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

I pledge to advocate for a complete, STEAM education for all children, regardless of what zip code they live in. (A STEAM education includes science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and the arts, humanities, and physical education classes that all children deserve.)

I pledge to advocate for policies that will make standardized testing a puzzle piece in a whole education, not the entire puzzle.

I pledge to demand an equitable funding formula for Pennsylvania students, which does not leave urban and rural school districts behind the few suburban school districts that are thriving right now.

I pledge to vote out of office those who do not help to restore the $860 million in funding lost over the past two years, and I pledge to demand answers from those who thought it was an acceptable idea in the first place.

By signing this petition, I stand united in the effort to restore public education in Pennsylvania and across the country to a quality in which all can take pride.

I have been a teacher for over 10 years now. Over the course of that time I have experienced the narrowing of curriculum, the stress of standardized testing, larger class sizes, my student's growing dislike of school, politician's pointing fingers at my profession and calling teachers, teacher's unions and administrators the "villians", stripping our budget for education to practically bare bones. All of this has left me disillusioned. No more. I say NO MORE! Time to fight back!

I owe where I am now to UDSD. Support public school, or accept becoming a second tier society. We don't want those other stupid countries to win, right?!?

Every child deserves an education no matter which zip code they live in.
