change requirements for getting children back
change requirements for getting children back
The Issue
Currently if a child is removed from the custodial parents home the parent is to comply with a plan of action in order to get the children back in their care. The idea behind this is that within a year the parent should adhere to the guidelines of the state in order to prove that they want their parental rights restored.
When a parent loses the child to the state due to alcohol/drug abuse, no income, and lack of housing they have 1 year to get the help they need to care for their child. When the parent does not to do this in the first 8 months, but then decide to start doing something when the year is about up they can still get the child back.
The state's job is to get the child back in the care of the custodial parent, but the parent is supposed to adhere to the programs and guidelines that have been set by the state. It seems to me that law is entirely too lenient on these guidelines. Thes are the steps that I think need to take place before the parent gets the children back.
1. Must be at place of employment for 6 consecutive months.
2. Enter a drug/alcohol treatment program.
3. Establish a home for at least 6 months.
4. Cannot associate themselves with anyone who has caused the children harm that contributed to the investigation.
A parents job is to protect, teach, and care for their children. If the parent is not doing any of the above mentioned things to better themselves while the kids are not in the home, why would anyone expect them to do it when they got the kids returned? Something absolutely needs to be done. Please show your support for this cause as there are many children out there that deserved to be fought for.
