My name is Jaime-Lynn Butler. I just turned 12 in September. I am Dine' and lived on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona. We had to move when our water ran out. I also had to sell my horse, William, because we didn't have water for him. It was really sad because I love animals, water and rivers and think all people should too!
I hear a lot of people talking about the drought, but who is trying to solve the problem and help us get more water? I'm not a scientist, but I know this is bad for all of us, especially the youngest generation. The environment is changing, and we are asking whoever is elected in November to help us find out why it's changing and help make sure the environment and animals and families are safe in the future.
Some people who live in big cities don't believe kids like us that the environment is changing. It's scary. I know I'm just a kid, but I know this is real!
It's really hard to live without water here in Arizona because it is so hot, and I want to stop it from getting hotter everywhere, so they don't run out of water too. I think our next President and other leaders need to do everything they can to take care of our planet for our future. It doesn't matter if you are a Democrat or Republican if there's no water left for anyone or their animals, right?
Please help me. Ask the next President (whoever he is) to join me, and my peers at Kids vs Global Warming, to talk about this within 100 days of starting his job in January. We need the President to make a plan that will protect the planet and water.
