Shallotte Greenway Initiative
The Issue
You may be a resident of Shallotte, a neighbor, or someone considering a move to the South Brunswick Islands. We thank you for viewing our proposal and we urge you to sign our petition. Our organization has spent over one year designing and revising a comprehensive greenway master plan for the greater Shallotte area — a proposed multi-mile pedestrian and cycling network composed of a series of interconnected conservation easements. Many of you have lived in or visited other communities where greenways exist, and can testify to their success. As the Town of Shallotte becomes more developed, areas of open green space will continue to become more constricted and disconnected. Through our process of investigation, we have found a way to piece together a nearly seamless network of interconnected green space, linking all of the residential, commercial, and civic areas in a way that provides a new and exciting layer to the transportation network. However, as future real estate development progresses, this prime window of opportunity will pass and never again will there be a chance to preserve a greenway corridor. We must act now to guarantee future generations access to the natural wonder of our coastal environment. Please sign our petition and ask others to join in our cause to establish the Shallotte Greenway.
