Update: the University is defending their position...by lying. They also support this new policy by citing shorter wait times - but simply refusing rides is NOT the solution to high wait times! Email Julie Payne-Kirchmeier (jp-kirchmeier@northwestern.edu) to let her know that students would prefer higher wait times when combined with the reinstatement of off-campus to off-campus rides.

With no warning, SafeRide is no longer giving off-campus to off-campus rides. According to their website, SafeRide is "a service provided to members of the Northwestern community as a safe and free alternative to walking alone after dark." This new policy directly opposes their purpose.

There is no reason that someone should be able to get a ride from a dorm to an off-campus location while someone living off-campus cannot get a ride from their home to the same off-campus location. Students living off-campus are still paying tution and should not be penalized for choosing this housing option. 

The university does not have enough housing for university affiliates, which forces students to live off-campus. We should not be denied equal access to univeristy programming simply because of the housing situation. 

We are asking SafeRide to simply reinstate off-campus to off-campus rides. We understand that SafeRide is attempting to improve efficiency, but we do not believe this is the right policy.
