Prosecute the Head Groundskeeper at Rockville Center Links Golf Club for Starving Ducks!

The Issue

The Rockville Centre Links golf club has brought in, kept, and fed pet domestic non-flighted ducks on their private fenced property for many years.   Recently a worker at the golf club contacted Wildlife Rehabbers, saying the head groundskeeper hated the ducks, stopped buying food for them this winter, ordered the workers to stop feeding them, stop giving them water and to starve them to death, and that some ducks had already died from starvation.  When Rescuers arrived at the golf club on the morning of January 13, there was no food, water, or shelter available for the ducks.  The ducks were in horrific condition.  Federally licensed Wildlife Rehabilitators took possession of the ducks and upon examination, determined they were emaciated, deprived of water, and in general bad condition.  These are pekin domestic ducks that cannot fly.

The case has been referred to the Nassau County DIstrict Attorney Animal Crimes Bureau but we are told that they may not prosecute.

Please let Nassau County District Attorney Jed Painter and the Animal Crimes Bureau know that it is NOT okay to starve ducks to death.
