Los Angeles City Council: Legalize mobile food vending on sidewalks in Los Angeles

    1. Petition by

      Los Angeles Street Vendor Campaign

Street vending in Los Angeles is part of the history, culture, and economy of our city. Estimates show that there are over 10,000 street vendors in our communities. Food vending offers employment and opportunities for business ownership for thousands of entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs have been struggling for decades as they experience discrimination, attacks on their livelihood, excessive fines, and even arrests. Our city currently criminalizes sidewalk vendors. We believe that these laws are negatively impacting vendors, community members, and the overall L.A. economy.

Legalizing the vending of food for Los Angeles entrepreneurs will advance small business growth, help create vibrant and safer neighborhoods, and expand access to fresh, healthier, and affordable foods.

To:
Los Angeles City Council
I believe that street vendors create jobs, build healthier communities, and cultivate safer streets. Los Angeles should legalize mobile food vending on sidewalks.

Sincerely,
[Your name]

I would like to start my own business and with limited start up money street vending would be the only feasible way to start and develop venture capital for other business proposals.

I am shocked that these laws even exist, in LA, let alone a police department that appears to take pleasure in the enforcement of these tyrannical laws, laws that are counter productive to the community and the individuals attempting to establish businesses.

These people need every opportunity to establish micro food businesses and grow communities, the state should be encouraging these food entrepreneurs NOT arresting them. The LAPD should be supporting them by purchasing their food, NOT fining them. This appalling behaviour should not be tolerated. And I would urge anyone who feels strongly about this to sign this petition and protest the actions of the LAPD

So that we can have a safe clean system of street vending, continue patronizing LA food and culture and give vendors decent and honest living with accountability to public too

it is important to me because as a cook in the Los Angeles food industry, this would give me and others like me an opportunity to have another outlet for us to present our ideas in food without opening a restaurant or going seriously into debt wih this type of venture.
