Linnette Edwards, Better Homes and Gardens RealEstate: Stop using Phat Beet's programs to sell flipped houses in North Oakland

The Issue

In order to flip homes in North Oakland, which has a perceived stigma, Linnette Edwards of Better Homes and Gardens RealEstate has decided to create a fictional neighborhood called "NOBE". She is whitewashing the history and culture of the existing neighborhood by replacing the history of the black working class and family homes of North Oakland with that of hipsters and apartment lofts. Phat Beets Produce has asked Linnette Edwards numerous times to remove any mention of our social programs such as neighborhood farmers' markets or youth gardens in any of online media that is used to sell flipped homes and she has not complied. Phat Beets Produce will not be a tool for her dreams of GENTRIFICATION!

“Hi all, I'm so sorry for this misunderstanding. This will be removed today. I'd like to correct a few comments on this petition. 1) I have been traveling abroad and returned late last night to one vm from Phat Beets requesting removal from the website. My VM even said I was out of the office until the 5th. In the VM it only asked to have the name Phat Beets removed. 2) In no way was this a way to sell flipped homes. We just believed In the business and thought it's great for the neighborhood. Mentioning their name as in other companies was simply a way to share and educate others interested in learning more about the neighborhood. 3) I did not create the name NOBE and I don't know where it came from. I believe in the neighborhood and love the diversity and all that it offers. This is the reason why so many people love this area and believe in it. Sincerely, Linnette ”
