Since the military coup in June 2013, Abdel Fatteh el-Sisi’s government has been targeting, jailing, and even killingperceived political dissenters, including journalists –– and the situation hasn’t gotten any better since the recent sham elections. 

Despite these violations of human rights and clear breach of the freedom of the press, the US continues to giveEgypt military aid to the tune of over $1 billion every year. While the aid is currently suspended, John Kerry has signaled he is willing to resume it, and just recently sent over 10 Apache helicopters to the military.
