Creating a dog park is important because currently, residents of Freeburg do not have a safe place in which they can interact with their dog (s).  The only area of the Freeburg Park in which dogs are allowed is on the walking path.  While in this area, dogs must be on a leash.

I believe that the establishment of such an area would be most beneficial to the residents of Freeburg.  There is no established area in which dogs can exercise and play in an off-leash environment.  According to the American Kennel Club, dogs that are allowed to socialize become better behaved.  Also,  having dogs in the park with their owners may be a crime deterrent.

By providing this extension to the existing park, I feel that the Village of Freeburg would also be promoting a sense of community.  Dog owners would have a designated area where they can interact with their dog (s) as well as socialize with other dog lovers. This could create new friendships that would not have been achieved without the creation of a dog park.
