Move the 2018 World Cup to The Netherlands

The Issue

The World Cup promotes peace and anti-racism; Putin proudly opposes its values. The Netherlands bid on the 2018 World Cup, and they deserve it. Russia has been behaving like a pariah state for years now, and yet it was rewarded with hosting the 2014 Olympics. Is it surprising then that Putin behaves with impunity?

The World Cup hosting rights are estimated to be worth $20 billion. That is money that Putin and his cronies will steal and hide away in European bank accounts like they allegedly stole $30 billion from the Olympics budget. We cannot reward Putin by allowing Russia to host the next World Cup. FIFA must show that it values human rights and peace -- the values celebrated by this beloved international tournament.
