Help the flood victims of Nigeria!

Help the flood victims of Nigeria!
The Issue
For decades, multinational companies have made overwhelming fortunes off the oil-rich states of Nigeria, while the vast majority of the regions' citizens live on less than $1 a day. Now, flooding has created a disaster that has displaced more than 600,000 people, destroyed homes, lands, crops, and means of basic subsistence. The flood damage has not, however, interfered with oil production. It is unconscionable that the regions' big oil companies would not provide relief for the victims of their surrounding communities in this time of urgent need and dire poverty. We call on these companies to help provide for transportation, shelter, food, water, medicine, and other basic necessities to allow the people of the Niger Delta and surrounding regions to survive and rebuild. We call on the governors of these regions to make sure all funds reach their constituents, and for total transparency in the collection and distribution of all funds, with full access to information about any contributions and their use made available to the public, to reporters, and to the regions' NGOs working toward relief.
