The technological developments that ‘dot’ history suggest that humans as a species are evolving. However, the stats related to domestic ‘Violence against Women” paint a different picture!!

Domestic violence is a gender-based crime with women being more likely to experience than men. Studies in the US, Israel, Canada, Australia, and South Africa found that 40-70% of female murder victims were killed by husbands or boyfriends.

With regards to the USA, according to the National Violence Against Women Survey (NVAWS) about 1.5 million women are raped and/or physically assaulted by an intimate partner annually. Recent studies also suggest that 33% of female victims compared to 4% of male victims were killed by an intimate partner.

On one hand this attitude/practice is learnt social behaviour that has been embedded or programmed into the Male psyche/Ego. On the other, there are countries, where ‘Violence against Women’ is embodied in their cultural framework and even laws.

Whatever the reasons and regardless of what part of the world we live, WE CAN NO LONGER REMAIN SILENT. For by remaining silent, we are ‘saying’ that today in the 21st Century it is Ok for the WOMAN – the Giver of Life – the Door through which Life Becomes - to be beaten and murdered by their partners and men.

In 2008 the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon launched the UNiTE to End Violence against Women campaign. It is a multi-year effort aimed at preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls in all parts of the world. UNiTE calls on governments, civil society, women’s organizations, young people, the private sector, the media and the entire UN system to join forces in addressing the global pandemic of violence against women and girls.

YES VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IS A GLOBAL CRISIS THAT NEEDS YOUR URGENT SUPPORT!!!
