Please sign this petition to make cat declawing illegal in New Jersey. Declawing cats is banned in most countries as well as many of the states in the US, New Jersey is not one of them.....This practice is a barbaric torture on the animal. Basically the nail joint is amputated similar to that of having a human finger removed at the first joint. Not only is it extremely physically painful, it causes tremendous distress to the cat mentally and emotionally. They are left with sockets where the nail joint was which can get clogged up with cat litter therefore a lot of cats will refuse to even use one. They no longer have any defenses for themselves and become insecure and defensive. There are many options to this practice for cat owners i.e. soft paw plastic caps etc. There are many landlords demanding that a cat be declawed in order to rent in their dwellings. They are already getting pet deposits for any damages incurred by said pet yet demanding that you have your cat's claws amputated. This is NOT acceptable. In this day and age with all of the evolutions of human beings it is time for animals to be treated with the respect and dignity they deserve. Please, I implore you to make it illegal in New Jersey to declaw cats!
