This petition will affect us all. As of July 1st of this year, 2012, interest rates on student loans are going to double. The government is expecting us college kids to pay for the mistakes of the banks and wall street. Stafford federal subsidized loans, the most common student loan in America for the middle class, has an interest rate of 3.4%. On July 1st that will rise to 6.8%. That means if you take out the maximum loan of $23,000, over the course of 10 years you will pay an additional $5,000 and every 20 years it's $11,000. This is going to cost the American lower and middle classes hundreds of billions of dollars.

The worst part about this is that the government is being so absolutely depraved in their methods. They are trying to fly this under the radar. There is almost no news covering it, and what little news there is doesn't even cover the fact that the government is being sketchy about it. They think that we are too young and naive and are too busy living our lives to notice what's happening as they steal from us right from under our noses. They are taking advantage of the American people to fix the problems caused by the banks and wall street. The mega-rich pay next to nothing in taxes and corporations loan money with with an interest rate at the same level, if not worse. These are people with more money than they could possibly ever need and then on top of that they don't even want to pay the same share that we all have to pay. They buy out politicians and have them create policies to benefit themselves. Corruption is running rampant and that's why they think they can get away with stealing even more from us.

We will be in debt for years longer than we expected in a market where the only job we're guaranteed pays minimum wage. They want to keep us down but I'm saying we don't have to. Policies will change if we get enough people to show their support. We have to do this because we have a chance to take back our country. Uniting the masses is the only way we will ever succeed. We need to start now and we need to tell them that we know what they're up to, and that we are not happy about it.
