Arfie, a two-year-old Labrador retriever, was inside of Jones' van when he died of a fatal gunshot wound on Wednesday morning. The police officer who killed the dog has claimed that the dog lunged at him from inside of the vehicle.

The dog was struck in the chest by the bullet; a photo of the van's window shows a bullet hole through the glass, suggesting by where the dog was hit that most of Arfie's body was still inside of the vehicle at the time that the shot was fired.

After the dog was killed, the officer, who remains un-named, allegedly stated that a "vicious pit bull" had lunged at him through the window. The dog's owner was not in the vehicle at the time - he was at a nearby restaurant eating breakfast.

Now the Coeur d'Alene police department is taking the stance of "protecting" the officer by not releasing his name.  How about protecting the citizens of Kootenai County from the "police officer" who is so jumpy he shoots dogs through a half closed window.

As taxpayers of this county we demand the name of the person who can't control his firearm for proper use.
