because it is important that they play fair. apple should state exactly under which license they use the OSM data and follow the rules of that license exactly.

I have updated the text of the petition,
according to the legal-talk list, apple does not have grounds to use just parts of OSM under the PD , Thanks to Martin Koppenhoefer for his diligence.

Update: There is no way to just selectively use the data under PD from OSM:

I have updated the text of the petition to make no assumptions and to be clearer.

    5. Maybe it is an non issue.

Important update: It is possible that apple used the public domain part of the OSM data and then they would not have to follow the cc-by-sa license, we would have to look at the items in detail. I might have to close this petition if we cannot find proof of usage of cc-by-sa data.

I am a contributor of OSM myself and I think, big players should follow the same rules everyone else has to.

Apple is way to arrogant lately. I refrain from Apple products (but my 3GS) until Apple becomes a transparent and responsible company, where users get before excessive profit.

Just because Apple is a large corporation they should not get special treatment. They should use the data just like anyone else. It's a bit hypocritical coming from a company known for its uber-proprietary stance on iPhone development.

Apple should be accountable as everyone else is

Because if CC-BY-SA data is used Apple has to uphold it's terms.
