Remove addresses of family members of sex offenders

The Issue

It is against Pinterest's terms of use to post personal information of another person - yet they are blatantly ignoring this policy by ignoring multiple reports of the four Pinterest boards owned by the Albany Times Union, which post the photographs and personal information of people on the registry and by proxy, their family members and children. There is no evidence to suggest this type of notification is effective at protecting the public - in fact, it may increase recidivism by making it impossible for registrants and their families to move on with their lives. Both the Times Union and Ben Silbermann have ignored multiple attempts to contact them and explain why these boards are dangerous. They have been public since October 2012.

Folks: As I understand it, your concern has been the posting on the Times Union's Pinterest site of the photos of individuals convicted of sex offenses, with their addresses. Since those addresses often were also those of family members, the concern was that we're tarring the reputation of innocent family members who weren't involved in the crimes of their relatives. In any case, the material was removed from the Pinterest site some time ago, so I believe the petition is outdated. Or you may say that your mission has been accomplished. Thank you for your interest in the Times Union. Rex Smith Editor
