Presently, without an Alabama expungement law, if a person is charged and acquitted of the crime, their record still shows the charge in a public manner. Information regarding an arrest can cause issues for that person forever, even when innocent. It can haunt the individual every time they fill out a job application background check with Alabama's "Right To Work" laws, a mortgage application or applying for a sensitive position that requires a security clearance. Seemingly an Alabama expungement law has been introduced each year for the past three years or more, only not to make it out of committee or vetoed by the Governor.  An expungement bill would fill an important gap in Alabama’s broken criminal justice system and allow people who were arrested and not convicted, for whatever reason, to clear their records.  Please Sign and Contact Your Local Rep.
