Happy New Year — and thank you again for signing the petition in support of a community pool for Hermosa Beach. Your name, voice, and support truly matter, and we want to share an update on what your signature helped make possible— and where we’re headed next.

2025 was a year of real progress.
During a tumultuous time for the City, and after just two appearances before City Council in June (thank you to everyone who showed up to support!), the Council formally agreed to send the idea of Hermosa Beach pursuing a pool to the Parks & Recreation Commission. That was a meaningful and necessary step forward — and one that would not have happened without visible community backing.

Since then, we’ve been waiting for placement on the Parks & Recreation agenda. This Tuesday, we will be attending the Parks & Recreation Commission meeting to formally request placement on the February agenda, and if you can join us, please do (Jan. 6, 6p, Council Chambers, 1315 Valley Drive).

While we’ve been in that holding pattern, we haven’t been standing still.
On the advice of a Parks & Recreation Commissioner, we’ve used this time to become more formally organized and prepared — so that when the City is ready to engage, we are ready with clarity, unity, and community support.

Over the past several months:

  • A clear outreach strategy has taken shape
  • Youth leaders have begun stepping up to engage peers and stakeholders (kids that want to join? email hermosapoolinitiativeyc@gmail.com )
  • Yard signs are being produced (want one? email hermosapoolinitiative@gmail.com)
  • A dedicated Hermosa Pool website is nearing completion at hermosapool.com
  • A neighborhood-by-neighborhood plan is in place to expand awareness and signatures across Hermosa Beach

2026 is about momentum. You signed the petition because you believe Hermosa Beach deserves better access to aquatic recreation. If you’re interested in taking a small next step — whether that’s attending a meeting, sharing feedback, helping spread the word, or simply staying more closely informed — we would love to hear from you at hermosapoolinitiative.com

More updates are coming soon as we enter this next chapter. For now, please know how grateful we are for your support and for helping move this long-needed conversation forward.

Here’s to a productive and hopeful 2026.

With appreciation,
Tara McNamara Stabile
