Subject: Petition to Deny Clemency for Ramiro Gonzales
Dear Members of the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles,
I am writing to urge you to deny clemency for Ramiro Gonzales, who is scheduled to be executed on June 26, 2024, for the kidnapping, rape, and murder of Bridget Townsend. Bridget was an 18-year-old woman from Bandera, Texas, whose life was brutally taken from her in January 2001.
The jury unanimously found Gonzales guilty of this heinous crime and sentenced him to death in 2006. Over the years, he has had numerous opportunities to appeal his conviction and sentence, and each time, the courts have upheld the original verdict. The impact of Bridget's murder on her family and our community has been devastating, and we have waited over two decades for justice to be served.
While I recognize the importance of mercy and rehabilitation, I believe that in this case, justice demands that the original sentence be carried out. Granting clemency to Gonzales would not only undermine the jury's decision but also further prolong the suffering of Bridget's family, who have already endured an unimaginable ordeal.
Bridget's family and our community need closure and the assurance that justice will be upheld. I respectfully request that you deny any petitions for clemency and allow the execution to proceed as scheduled.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
