Zac’s Act - Bring Awareness to Unsafe Intersections

Zac’s Act - Bring Awareness to Unsafe Intersections
The Issue
On June 4th, 2024, at 8:17 am, El Dorado High School 11th grader, Zachary Henn was involved in a collision that later claimed his life in the hospital. He was just 900 feet away from entering school property. Zac was a memeber of the track team, an intelligent student, and an incredible friend. Zac made a huge impact on peoples lives whether they saw him everyday or just passed him in the halls. This is a change we can make to honor him.
The following day, during lunch, another collision occurred at the same place Zac had tragically lost his life just hours before. Fortunately, the seven other victims of the two crashes survived and this incident has opened many eyes to the urgent need for change. A turn signal is desperately needed at that intersection of Valencia and Yorba Linda Blvd, which is frequented by inexperienced teen drivers and parents in a rush to drop their kids off before work. Because of this we cannot expect everyone to drive safely. Other than an added signal, lights should be tested every few months so we are certain they are accurate and work reliably.
These incidents, occurring in front of schools, demand the immediate necessity for change. Zac should still be with us, but now we must focus on preventing such tragedies from happening to others, whether a student, parent, or faculty member. As a community, we have the power to create this change.
Whilst signing please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Thank You,
Ava Ortiz
10th grader at EDHS, Zac’s teammate, and peer.
