YHA board fail to adhere to members direction and announce closure

As you may have heard the YHA board have failed to follow the motions passed by the membership at the YHA AGM in October to work with interested parties for 12 months to explore options to keep the hostel at Opoutere open. They have gone against clear directives of over 63% of the membership and announced the closure of the Hostel. They have failed to work with the Opoutere Members Group as they had promised and have ignored the membership in this matter. Legal advice is being undertaken and actions including an external enquiry considered to address these transgressions by the board. There will be a meeting in Auckland this weekend on Saturday afternoon. Also, this meeting will be available on video conference if you cannot attend in person. Now is the time for all of you who are passionate about this wonderful haven to show up and contribute. This can be by helping with the work that will need to be undertaken and/or donating funds. Simply put if there are not enough people declaring their interest to expand the efforts of the current group we will have to consider a limited response. There are hundreds of families who want to keep this Hostel open. Each one of you now need to contact us to become part of a practical and real solution. Letting us know that you are with us and are able to add to the energy of the core of active users of Opoutere who are determined to resolve this.
