It’s time to take specific and immediate action!!!

Save Opoutere YHA. It’s time to take specific and immediate action!!! Signing the petition is just the start. We now need individuals to stand up and be counted to ensure a result. Every single person who does this will make a difference. But there’s not a great deal of time. Our best initial course is to form a “Member’s Group” to consult with the YHA Board. Non-members can still make a valuable contribution. First, we need to know the composition, skills and membership position of current signatories. So please take the time now to email (saveopoutereyha@gmail.com) with the answers to these questions: 1. Are you a current member of YHA New Zealand? 2. We need to identify members specifically because members have the right to be heard as a group within YHA. We are forming the “Opoutere Members Group”. Are you happy to be recognised as a member of this group? 3. Are you a member of another national YHA association? Which one? You can be part of an international campaign. 4. Are you neither but a supporter of Save Opoutere? You may be a member of a special interest group who uses the hostel. We would very much like to hear from you as there is a diverse number of groups who are repeat users and we would love to hear from you all. 5. Are you a supporter of Opoutere but not a YHA member but prepared to join to make a difference? Join here https://www.yha.co.nz/membership and add your name to the list in 1. above. 6. Are you willing to be part of the action committee to drive the protection of Opoutere? We need you all. 7. Do you have any specific skills, profession, contacts, or resources that would help the group? (We’re particularly interested in supporters with legal and media skills right now, but if you have any other skills you’d like to contribute, please note them) Thanks again for your support – it will make a difference. If you really want to want to see the Opoutere hostel continue to operate, then let’s make this a significant issue and completely impossible to ignore. We’ve already commenced the formation of a Member’s Group following the process outlined in the constitution, which among other requirements needs 6 members we have at least 10 already. Current members include former YHA NZ executive committee members, long time and newer members, We need your name by Monday 24th so we can submit to the Board meeting to be held next week where the board are planning to take more steps to formalise the closure of the hostel.
