End Del Mar Dog Beach's Summer Leash Laws!!

End Del Mar Dog Beach's Summer Leash Laws!!
The Issue
The dog beaches are for the dogs! So they should be designed for the benefit of dogs! Not humans!
If residents or tourists want to enjoy the beach over summer without having a wet drooling dog run through their picnic or messing up their tanning sesh, there are many beautiful beaches in Del Mar that they can visit that don't allow dogs. There is even a beautiful beach over a small bridge just a few feet away where people can play and enjoy the beach in peace.
We want our dogs to get their exercise! With the increasing density of our urban areas, more and more dogs are 100% indoor. Dogs should get 30 minutes of vigorous exercise every day. For people with movement disabilities, or for people who just don't have the energy to jog every day, their options are limited.
We want our dogs to socialize! Allowing them to run free and smell and play will improve their social abilities, and discourage aggression. Dogs are generally more aggressive on leashes. On a leash, dogs are restricted to a small area surrounding their handler, which the dog's nature dictates it must protect. Of course, if you want to keep your dog leashed, or if your dog is safer on a leash, that option never goes away. But generally, leashing dogs in very exciting/social environments will encourage leash aggression in dogs.
We have tried to make our petition as local as possible, limiting advertisement to businesses and community boards in Del Mar, and local Facebook groups. We want our mayors to know the petition comes primarily from residents of Del Mar or nearby cities.
Dear mayors and deputy mayors. We are grateful that you loosened restrictions in 2018, we just want you to take it a step further to match the will of your voters. Please consider each signature on this petition as a respectful but firm complaint against the leash restrictions. We want our dogs to run free all year round.
Written and supported by people who love dogs.
