You can STOP illegal meat distribution in the USA, at the expense of indigenous lives

El problema

⚠️ You and your family might be eating illegal meat without even knowing | Nicaraguan beef, fed in deforested and stolen land, sustains part of the USA demand.

When the outbreaks COVID-19 impacted on meat processing plants in the USA, local production declined and the amount of imported beef increased. Since then, Nicaragua has filled out a portion of that demand at a high human cost!

❌ Some of this meat is illegal because in Nicaragua Indigenous lives have been taken and biodiversity has been destroyed in order to invade protected areas for meat production.

In addition, four years ago the USA repealed the laws that regulate the disclosure and labeling of the origin of meat to inform the consumer, and nowadays there is no mechanism or entity standing for legal meat distribution.

Then, before Nicaraguan beef shipment lands in the USA, this meat goes through a process in which a “whitening” is carried out. With whitening we refer to that moment when the origin of the meat is hidden, and it's mixed with meat produced in permitted forestland, so local buyers and importers cannot notice the difference.

This problem begins in Nicaragua, but American wholesalers and big meat companies own responsibility on this matter, because they sell the beef to grocery stores with the promise and guarantee it is grass fed and even “organic or sustainable”, suggesting it is more humane, but this is far from true.

When the beef finally enters the country, if this one is processed and packed in The United States, meat companies label them as “Produced in USA”, and again the imported beef is mixed with the one produced locally by American cattle ranchers.

In summary, Nicaraguan beef, fed in deforested and stolen land, sustains the USA demand, filling out the menus on restaurants and grocery store shelves at the expense of indigenous lives and destruction of forests and biodiversity.

Faced with this problem, we're carrying out a social and digital campaign to make awareness about the illegal meat production, and we're asking you today to conduct a change with us.

SIGN THIS PETITION!!! Help us to put this matter on the table, support us to stop human rights violations in indigenous communities, and raise your voice to protect your rights as final consumer.

When we achieve the goal, we will make some demands to different social actors who own responsibility in this issue, including one of the main American wholesalers Thomas Foods, and chains like Walmart, Safeway and Target who are distributing Nicaraguan beef.
