YM201 - Pengam / Penpedairheol - Stop all construction of our green spaces
The Issue
My connection to Pengam South Wales runs deep. Living right next to the area proposed for construction, I cherish countless memories of my youth spent playing on those fields. These spaces aren't just land; they are a part of who I am and now serve as a safe haven where I walk my dog. Yet, this cherished land that holds so much personal significance is under threat from developers eager to erect new housing.
Our green spaces in Pengam, Hengoed, Penpedairheol are already scarce, and this impending construction threatens what little we have left. These lands are essential, not only for personal reasons but for community well-being, biodiversity, and environmental health. Our duty is to protect this environment from being swallowed up by massive corporations who prioritize profits over our community's heart and heritage.
Moreover, the local council would face significant strain on their already limited resources with the increased workload from such developments. Our council is already overwhelmed, inundated with complaints, and struggling to manage their duties effectively with their current funding. Adding more strain is nonsensical and unfair.
Traffic congestion is another pressing issue. The commuting routes, especially near Pengam Station, are already gridlocked every morning. An influx of new residents would exacerbate this situation, making the daily lives of commuters more frustrating with prolonged delays.
We are standing defiant against corporate overreach threatening to rob us of our identity. We must resist and safeguard our community's values and environment. Taking action is crucial to preserve Pengam as a vibrant, livable community for current and future generations.
Join us in our fight to protect Pengam’s green spaces and community integrity by signing this petition. Together, we can make a difference.
