BLACKPINK HYLT MV Cultural Appropriation!
The Issue
Today, Blackpink released their music video for their latest single “How You Like That” however, some BLINKs (Blackpink fans) noticed that Ganesha, who is a sacred God in Hinduism, appears in the MV next to the throne one of the members were sitting on.
Ganesha is a significant god in Hinduism who represents generosity, protection and total acceptance. He is the deity of Hinduism and should not be used as a prop or for an aesthetic because it is extremely offensive and disrespectful towards Hinduism.
We need YG Entertainment to write a formal apology and remove those scenes from the MV and reshoot them/replace them! We also need to educate all YG Entertainment staff, Blackpink, BLINKs and everyone on cultural appropriation (as well as the difference between cultural appropriation and cultural appreciation) because this is not the first time this has happened and YG Entertainment are appropriating culture for marketing purposes. This needs to stop!
