Please come and help with the important next steps in opposing this unnecessary bicycle path through Rushall Reserve.

The great news is that our support has grown to stop this duplicate bike path and loss of green open space which is a very valuable commodity in Yarra. But we need a much better plan to address the issues. A new factor is the escalating cost of the pathway. We are going to seize the day and drive a new agenda as we must look to the future for our community.

The sign says the decision will not be decided before 3 September and we can lodge objections up until the Planning Officer writes the report. So its time to use our skills and campaign and organise.

Initial Campaign Meeting Thursday evening 24 August 8pm at North Fitzroy Arms, Rae St, North Fitzroy

Time is short so we need to act now.

  • Update on current situation
  • Looking at a new strategy to broaden the issue around the Merri Creek Valley area from the Merri Creek Bridge, Rushall Station precinct thru to St Georges Road. Things have changed in 4 years since this was first proposed. We need to protect open space and get the best pathways for pedestrians and cyclists in this valley.
  • The development of Amalgamated Marble and redevelopment of the Walker Street Estate need to part of an integrated plan for this area.
  • The current financial cost for the project and the Yarra Council Financial situation.
  • Ecology of the area.
  • Endangered Swift's parrot

Objections

We need to get as many objections lodged as we can especially from different areas of Yarra. We need to produce a quality detailed objection on behalf of Friends of Rushall Reserve as a basis for going to VCAT which is highly likely.

We will need a leaflet and letter boxers to inform the community. We need to build a skilled multi talented team to cover off the different areas. We need experts to advise or we become experts ourselves as the Protect Fitzroy North team did. We will need to raise some money to pay for printing and planning legal advice for our submission. Many minds make light work! We have a successful model from Protect Fitzroy North to base this campaign on!
