No Cosmetic Lawn Pesticides in WyCo Parks
The Issue
The combination of toxic herbicides applied to turf areas of the park is harmful to insects, birds, and mammals, including many thousands of people that use the parks. We believe that health and environment risks outweigh the esthetic quality derived from herbicide application.
Botanists at Kansas State University, with expertise in turf grasses and flowering plants, have stated that weekly mowing will keep the weeds in abeyance. We ask the Park Board to approve a one year trial of halting all herbicide application to Rosedale Park. We will assess the effects and park user opinion in the late fall of 2022, and will report to the Board and Director of WyCo P&R our findings.
