Save Ysgol Pontfadog site!
The Issue
Ysgol Ponfadog has been part of the community for over 110 years. It was a well respected school and was sadly closed to local children and families in 2019, even after there was a 1300 strong letter objection by people who were opposed to the school closure. Since then locals have come together to try and preserve the school and grounds. The Pontfadog Forest School and Community hub committee has put forward a robust, viable and sustainable business plans to keep the school building firmly within the centre of the community of the Ceiriog Valley. However Wrexham CBC deem the idea of this Forest School and Community hub not to be a viable business. Our local community council run a consultation process and based on the results of the tick box survey, they concluded that the majority wanted housing. It was unclear from the survey if demolishing was an option. There are currently 5 sources of grant funding available for projects like this. Never has there been a more important time to get children outside for there health and well being.
Therefore as a strong Welsh community we need to come together to save our local heritage and use this historic school building as the community chooses. The grounds can be used for Forest school nursery, the specialist school curriculum sessions, holiday club and children's parties. There will also be allotments and a outdoor green space where children can play ball games (there is nowhere at the moment where children can play ball games at present). The school building can be used for the old school café and museum, desk rental with internet for young people to study, day care drop in centre for the elderly, a Saturday local produce market and events. The local Policeman and Vicar have both registered an interest for a desk rental and to meet people from the community. We believe this project would be more beneficial for the wider community and local families than to demolish historic building and be replaced by modern housing when we already have six new affordable houses to be completed next month.
We have already lost this site as our local school so please sign the petition to save the school building and grounds before it is too late.
