REDDITCH LIBRARY DEMOLITION UPDATE

Redditch Conservatives are desperately trying to pull the wool over the eyes of the Redditch people by posting out their myths and legends against Labour's dynamic plans for the Town Centre.
TORY MYTH 1) Labour cannot stop the demolition of the library, it's a matter for the County Council.
FACT: A Labour Borough Council can stop the demolition of the library. The library demolition is part of the Towns Fund deal for which Redditch Borough Council is the overseeing authority.
It approves the projects and is responsible for managing the funds.
The proposed move to the Town Hall is also being paid for by the Borough Council who are proposing to sell off the land and demolish Community House building in Easemore Road which is the home to many local voluntary services and groups including the Gemini Dance Troupe.
The County Council is acting at the request of Redditch Borough Council to demolish the existing Library and re-locate the services to the Town Hall to make way for the vanity project which is the plaza and the building of cafe and office buildings.
Therefore, if Labour take control of Redditch Borough Council on May 4th, the demolition of the Library will be withdrawn and the County Council will not have to agree a new location as the library will stay where it is.
It was confirmed in a public meeting by the Portfolio Holder and Officers of Worcestershire County Council that should Labour take control of Redditch Borough Council on May 4th - they could withdraw RBC's request to Worcestershire County Council to demolish the Library and WCC would have no more to say in the matter.

TORY MYTH 2) It was Labour's idea to demolish the library.
FACT: The regeneration prospectus issued in 2018, just before the Conservatives took over, was part of a number of options put forward by officers, stakeholders and multi agencies.
There was no decision made on any of the idea's put forward and it was voted to have FULL consultation with the public. Unfortunately when the Conservatives took over in May 2018 the consultation was ditched and they went full steam ahead with demolishing the Library plan - without consultation or a plan for the provision of library services at that time.
Had Labour still run Redditch Council from 2018, the full consultation would have gone ahead as planned - with the current majority of objections to the Library demolition - it would not have happened.
Redditch Labour have listened to the residents and put forward an alternative plan to keep the Library where it is and bringing back a NEW Market + revamping shops etc - this is what we would put in place should people vote for Labour to run the Council on May 4th.
It's in the hands of the voters to make their choice on May 4th and should be free to choose without being subjected to Redditch Conservatives propaganda.
