Since my last update a lot has happened. We have commissioned an independent arboriculture specialist to review the information contained in the report commissioned by PRI insurance. He has discovered that the datum figures contained in the report are positive which indicates heave rather than subsidence which would have had a negative figure .
Heave is caused by saturated clay soil so if the tree was to be removed it would make the problem worse ! The council cannot be held responsible for heave. We have passed this report on to the council and we are waiting for a proper correct outcome this should be that the council can defend the claim which is clearly a loss adjusters way of reducing the insurance companies pay out . All the information is on the "trees of Peterborough" facebook group. This is a private group so you will have to wait for moderator approval before you can join but please take the time to have a look. The fight is far from over as the council just keep repeating the same copy and past statements that they were issuing before this new information came to light. They have admitted that removing this much loved ancient tree will not solve the householders problem but it will put the council in a strong position to defend any future claim as there will not be a tree on council land to blame.
So a council which is receiving huge grants for environmental issues want to fell a much loved ancient tree as a precaution ! The destruction of blind lane is frankly shocking 11 years ago it looked like centreparks now it looks like a war zone! All the other trees including another ancient oak that had a TPO on it have been felled. This Oak is the last remaining, it is magnificent . We have the support of our MP Paul Bristow which is a big help but we must keep up the fight!
