The Issue

The Takht Sri Hazoor Saheb in Nanded, Maharashtra holds immense spiritual and historical significance to the Sikh community. It is the sacred site where our Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singhji Maharaj, bestowed the Gurta Gaddi to Guru Granth Sahebji, thereby declaring it the everlasting Guru of the Sikhs. This revered location is not only a place of worship but also a heart of our religious heritage and identity.

The proposed 2026 bill by Maharashtra government and abolishing the 70 years old act of Gurudwara threatens to infringe upon the autonomy and sanctity of our religious institution. It is disheartening to see governmental attempts to intervene in the management and religious affairs of Sikh Gurudwaras, which undermines the independence of our sacred places. The Sikh community believes that this bill will result in unwarranted interference in our religious practices and jeopardize the preservation of our traditions.

The government must honor the sentiment of the Sikh community by withdrawing the bill and engaging in open dialogue before implementing policies affecting our faith. The authorities must adhere to respecting our religious rights and ensure that any changes in management or oversight involving Sikh Gurudwaras are made with full and respectful consultation with our community leaders.

By fulfilling the promise of dialogue and mutual respect, the Sikh community and the government can coexist harmoniously without encroaching on the sanctity of our religious sites. We call upon the responsible authorities to reconsider their decision, acknowledge our religious freedoms, and withdraw this contentious bill immediately.

We urge everyone supportive of religious freedom and cultural autonomy to stand with us in protecting the integrity of Takht Sri Hazoor Saheb by signing this petition. Let us ensure that the sanctity of our sacred space remains inviolable.
