The state Department of Natural Resources released a draft environmental impact statement Wednesday of a golf course planned for the Lake Michigan shore by the Kohler Company. This report is premature because the company has not yet made a formal proposal. The purpose of an EIS is to educate the public as to the project. The DNR analysis used information supplied by the Kohler company and its consultants to show effects the course could have. Preliminary plans favored by the company would require an easement of 4 acres of state park land. The EIS only presents theory. How can the public make an informed decision without all the information? How can the DNR make a scientific decision without all of the information? Please voice your opinion and help the DNR understand there is nothing responsible about deforesting 60% of 247 acres, filling in rare wetlands, bulldozing rare dunes, drawing down an aquifer and pouring thousands of pounds of pesticides unfiltered into Lake Michigan and Black River.
